The fight for California’s first congressional district 27

Your guide to the California Congressional District 27 race: Mike Garcia vs. Christy Smith

District 27 is located deep in the Central Valley and includes part of the northern San Joaquin Valley as well as portions of Merced and Fresno counties. Congressman Jeff Denham currently represents this district with ease, defeating Democrat Mary Davis by more than 20 points in 2013. He’s been on the right side of the Washington DC Beltway for more than 20 years. He served as the Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, the House Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and the House Rules Committee.

If you’re like many Californians, you live on a tight budget and work on a fixed income. No longer do we depend on the federal government to provide for our public safety services. Thanks to the California Legislature, the state now has its first, truly independent police service. No more need for federal oversight as the state has its own police force.

Our state is experiencing dramatic and growing political polarization. If we allow ourselves to have a divided government, we will be on the road to disaster. It’s very easy to be on a budget but very difficult to get all the services and resources we need.
