SAN FRANCISCO — This was a good day for the U.S. men’s national team as their new crest, unveiled Thursday in Washington, was unveiled with a rainbow-colored logo.

“It is my hope that the new crest will inspire others — regardless of sexual identity and orientation or faith — to follow in our footsteps and achieve their full potential,” head coach Jurgen Klinsmann told USA Today Sports. “We are here to represent the United States of America to the world.”

The new crest, which will become the official team’s home jersey, features the traditional crest of the United States, with a rainbow-colored background that reads: “EVERY CHILD A LITTLE HELPS STRUGGLING A GIRL TO FREEDOM.”

The U.S. Men’s National Team was founded in 1979. The team is currently in second place in Germany and third place in South Africa.

A number of players and staff took part in the unveiling, with players like Clint Dempsey, Graham Zusi and DaMarcus Beasley standing and waving.

“It’s kind of the new jersey,” Zusi said. “It’s our new home jersey. Hopefully — like we always say — it’ll be a representation of the way we’re going to play this tournament.”

The USA will take on Germany on Sunday in the group stage of the World Cup.
